Ben Trunzo

BA, BPE, MSC

Ben is currently Head Athletic Therapist in the Department of Athletics and an instructor in the Athletic Therapy curriculum in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at the University of Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and Developmental Studies) in 1978, the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Physical Education in 1981 and a Masters of Science degree from the University of Alberta in 1989.

Ben certified with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) in 1987. He has served on a number of committees for CATA – four years as an executive board member including one year as president. Three more years were spent on the national certification committee – currently, he is the Certification Chairperson.

Ben brings with him a wealth of clinical skills and experiences at the university, professional, national and international levels including his selection to the Canadian Medical Team for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, 1999 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, 2003 Pan Am Games in Santo Domingo Dominican Republic, the World University Games, 1991 Shefield England, 93 Buffalo New York and 95 Fukuoka Japan.

He has also served on the medical teams at the 1987 and 1991 Canada Winter Games, and the 1989 and 1997 Canada Summer Games. As well, Ben has been providing athletic therapy services to the national Women’s Volleyball team program since 1987. Ben has been an invaluable resource to ECMT for over 20 years and is one of our founding instructors.
